We're Taking it Outside Once Again!
As the weather gets warmer, training is on my mind again. With a half marathon and bike relay on the radar for spring and summer, I've got my work cut out for me.
Honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my favorite time of year, because with the changing of seasons comes more opportunities to get active outdoors and enjoy some fresh air with my exercise.
Just like this time last year, my family has started to make the annual shift from one sports season to another, taking the ball from the court to the field.
For my daughters Allie and Brooklyn, that means going from a chaotic but strong basketball season to soccer practice. Our whole family loves everything basketball, so it's a little bittersweet when the season ends, but the girls have had such a fantastic time this year, with both Allie and Brooklyn playing on top teams. It has been a great experience for them both, and perhaps even more fun for their parents, who get to watch them learn and become strong players.
Even though we're a family of runners and athletes, I often find myself very impressed with Nicole and her ability to preform so well in track. Her events are the 4x100 relay and the 100-meter hurdles.
Running is something I genuinely enjoy and encourage, so I can fully understand the appeal of the relay, but the idea of jumping over things at the same time makes me nervous. Even talking to Nicole about jumping hurdles scares me! But she's got talent and drive, and she does a great job.
Brittany recently participated in Distinguished Young Women, a scholarship program in which the contestants are judged on their talents and self-expression, and their fitness level. It was a great experience and opportunity for her and a fun evening out for us, and we're so proud of everything she's achieved in school and her extracurriculars.
I suppose even if our kids weren't doing great in school and on the court, we'd be proud, but Becca and I often say how lucky we are to have kids who put so much drive and enthusiasm into everything they do. As we prepare for the longer days and more time outside, I hope you're making big plans to spend a little extra time with your family and friends, and get some fresh air and exercise while you're at it.
