To the Bahamas and Back Again

A rest and relaxation anniversary celebration

For our anniversary last month, Becca and I took an amazing trip to the Bahamas to get a little rest and relaxation, and to spend a week with her brother who has been working there as a construction manager for the past year. It was awesome getting to hang out with my brother-in-law and his family, and to see what it’s like to live the island life.

We stayed in Guana Cay in the Abacos Islands, which is rapidly becoming a vacation home development destination for the rich and famous. Guana Cay is a fun little place, where everybody drives golf carts to get from place to place on the seven-mile island.

Near where we stayed there was a perfect little dock on the seaside where Becca and I spent a lot of time just enjoying the breeze and the sun. I loved snorkeling around to catch a glimpse of eel and stingrays, and to catch conch in the crystal blue water. We even decided to rent a boat and explore some of the other islands, and relaxed in a beautiful lagoon where the water was ankle deep on white sand.

The best part of the trip was simply spending time with Becca and celebrating our anniversary in such a relaxed way. It was so interesting to see my brother-in-law and his kids, and get the chance to see the expansive resort his company has been working on.

The island life is definitely a different pace! Since we spent a week enjoying the warm weather, great food, and beautiful views, we weren’t too stressed out when our flights were delayed and we got home a day late. Apparently the Bahamas had made its impression on us, because we weren’t annoyed at all, but rather just happy to be home to see the kids and take on the next challenge.

It's a little hard to keep up with all the activity in our family, but it looks as though my wife and I aren’t the only ones on the move! Our oldest daughter, Melissa, recently received her call to serve her mission in Guam, Micronesia. She will depart on July 13 for 18 months. She’s very excited for the wonderful opportunity to serve, and although she’ll be missed around here, we’re so incredibly proud of her.
